2019 Heart and Stroke Ball Honorees:
Dr. Roger Freedman, MD
Roger A. Freedman, M.D. has been a faculty member at the University of Utah for over 20 years. He specializes in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly in the implantation and management of implanted pacemakers and defibrillators. Pacemaker and defibrillator lead extraction is a highly specialized technique in which Dr. Freedman is greatly experienced. Dr. Freedman received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He did his internship and residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and his cardiology training at Stanford University. Dr. Freedman sees patients at the University of Utah Hospital as well as outreach clinics in Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming.
Dave and Kathi Thomas, Founders of Thomas Arts
Dave founded his first advertising agency, Thomas Phillips Clawson, in 1982. In 1989 he sold the agency to Evans Group, and served as president and CEO of their Salt Lake, Los Angeles and Denver operations during the next several years. When Evans Group was sold to Publicis in 1998, Dave became president of the Salt Lake office. After a run for the U.S. Congress, he founded ThomasARTS in 2003 with his three sons, Troy, Matt and Brett.
Kathi Thomas is a deeply respected woman in our community. She ran a highly regarded pre -school for many years, many of her former students are now employed by Thomas Arts. Kathi is warm, sharp and charming. She, along with many members of her family have fought the brutal effects of heart disease. Dave and Kathi, along with their sons and employees have made it one of their missions to assist the American Heart Association's fight to prevent and ultimately find a cure for heart disease.
