Why is this Go Red For Women important to me? Because seven years ago, I lost my BEST friend to heart disease…my Mom.
|
I NEVER would have believed something like this could happen in my family… my Mom ate well, physically “looked” healthy and was very active…we learned the hard way that heart disease can be a silent, swift moving killer.
Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer of both men AND women? I didn't. Did you also know that 80% of heart disease is preventable? I didn't know that either. About 1 in 3 women die from cardiovascular disease every year…that’s about one every minute.
|
It is my personal goal to raise $150,000 to fund the groundbreaking research and awarenessthat is needed to prevent other families from going through what we did… Please help me Shatter the Silence and fight against heart disease by joining me at this year’s Luncheon. |

My passion and dedication to the Circle of Red and Go Red For Women comes from personal experiences. My “heart” journey began when my son was born 3 months premature with a multitude of problems, which included several holes in his heart that were too tiny to operate on.
|
Then my seemingly-healthy young mom had two heart attacks which resulted in several surgeries and left her with a portion of her heart dead.
As I began researching my family history about five years ago, I discovered how much heart disease has affected my family from grandmas, sisters, and aunts and decided that I wanted to do something to make a difference for my family and others like mine. This is when I called the American Heart Association and was connected with a couple other women who also wanted to bring awareness to the community about the Go Red For Women movement. This group of powerful women grew to become a special group called the Circle of Red. What sets a Circle of Red member apart is their passion and commitment for impacting our community which they accomplish with a personal financial gift to fund life-saving research and through bringing awareness and education to others to help them live longer, healthier lives. Our group has continued to grow to over 20 members and I am amazed with the research, education, and programs we’ve been able to support for Utah women.
I go RED to: create passion and awareness in the community; to fight heart disease and stroke; to help save lives; to remember women who died, and celebrate women who have survived; and to educate everyone on our No. 1 killer of women today. I Go Red To Make A Difference!
